Our Mission
To promote green and quiet neighbourhoods for all Montrealers by advocating for

1. a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers

2. a limit on the use of all types of leaf blowers on the Island of Montreal.
Leaf Blower Problems
Gasoline-powered leaf blowers often operate at dangerous noise levels.
Their gas engines emit particles and gases that contribute to smog, climate change and health problems.
Leaf blower use also causes biodiversity loss.
Why ban or limit leaf blowers, especially gas powered varieties ?
Noise levels are too high
(especially gasoline powered)
Hearing loss may result, especially for the people operating them.

Intermittent stopping and starting of the machines affects concentration and mental health for people living and working nearby.
Excessive urban noise reduces successful bird reproduction.
Toxic air pollutants and COâ‚‚ emissions affect us all
(gasoline powered)
Exhaust from leaf blowers powered with two-stroke gasoline engines contains smog-causing gases and tiny particles that can damage our heart and lungs.
COâ‚‚ emissions contribute to climate change.

Forceful blasts of air –

contribute to biodiversity loss and health problems
(all types of leaf blowers)

The blast of air can destroy insects at all stages of their life cycle. Some insects are pollinators, helping plants reproduce, and others are a key source of food for birds.

Complete removal of leaves affects overwintering protection for animals, including insects, and plants.

Dust blown into the air including particles of mould, fertilizer, feces, tire residue and much more can cause heart and lung disease in humans.

Municipal Bylaws
City of Montreal borough noise by-laws regulate the use of leaf blowers
For other cities on the Island of Montreal, check online or contact your municipality directly.

For all boroughs, towns and cities, find out if they have leaf blower restrictions with respect to time of day, day of the week, holidays and month of the year.
